Since news broke of acting doyen Kofi Middleton Mends death following kidney problems, some of Ghana’s foremost filmmakers have taken to social media to express their commiserations.
Among them are Sparrow Production head Shirley Frimpong-Manso, in whose film Grey Dawn Kofi Mends last starred, as well as acclaimed director Leila Djansi.
“His last screen performance was sparrow’s Grey dawn. Rest in perfect peace Uncle Kofi Middleton Mends. Will miss you”, Shirley tweeted.
Leila, on her part, emphasized what professional affinity they have cultivated over the years; “1964, He starred in Hamile, a Ghanaian retelling of the famous shakepeare play Hamlet, directed by Terry Bishop and he remained one of the best and most dynamic actors in Ghana!! I was honored, each time I called him he’d say “Leila, I’ll do anything once it’s you”. Mr Kofi Middleton-Mends”
