The 2018 Miss Malaika pageantry was finally brought to a close on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the National Theatre in Accra. In what was a keenly contested competition, Mariam Owusu-Poku emerged as the enviable winner in this year’s contest.
Mariam, who is a Business Administration student at the University of Ghana, beat off stiff competition from nine other contestants to emerge winner.
The 2018 Miss Malaika final had a star-studded cast with Joselyn Dumas, Jackie Appiah, Naa Ashorkor, James Gardiner and Lexis Bill constituting the judging panel, as the ever adorable Berla Mundi steered affairs as host of the prestigious event with DJ Vyrusky on the turn tables.
All 10 finalists of the competition took turns to perform, cat-walked gorgeously in their elegant apparels in a bid to impress the judges. The ladies left nothing to chance as they all delivered very powerful speeches and satisfying responses to the questions from the honorable Judges for the night.
However, it was Mariam whose beauty, intelligence and confidence outshone the other contestants as she was crowned the new queen of the pageantry.
Other wins on the night were Evelyn who also emerged as the 1st runner-up, while Rosetta came in third-place at the 2018 Miss Malaika contest.
Meanwhile, the event was also graced by some of the best performers, including MzVee, Kuami Eugene, KiDi and Wendy Shay.
Jennifer, who unfortunately couldn’t make it into the top 5 could afford to walk home with a smile after winning two awards; Best Make-Up during the pageant which comes with a whole lot of products from Glams make-up. Making a great impact on the night was Afia, who won miss talent and walked away with a cool Television set from TLC.
Over all, it was a night to remember as all the ladies displayed courage and effort to win the crown but there can always only be one queen and that was, Mariam.
