VGMA LEGENDS! Kofi Abraham, Mary Ghansah & J.A. Adofo Are VGMA Lifetime Achievement Winners

Few months ago, an intense banter was instigated over the inability or refusal of the Board for the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) to present a Lifetime Achievement Award for any gospel singer for the past 19 years of the scheme – observed the chatter.

The organizers,  Charterhouse and the VGMA Board are such a listening bunch, so, the genuine complaints from stakeholders within the gospel fraternity have been heard and action has been taken on it – hurray!

This portal, can confirm that two stalwarts in the gospel domain; Prof. Kofi Abraham and Rev. Mrs. Mary Ghansah have been listed for honours as 20th VGMA Lifetime Achievement Award laureates .

They will be joined by highlife luminary, Obuoba J.A. Adofo!

1.Rev. Mary Ghansah

Rev. Mary Ghansah is an ordained Minister of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. She is a renowned gospel singer and a prolific song writer, a worshiper, who has written some of the many songs that we sing in our churches today in Ghana and elsewhere. She has close to 20  albums to her credit in a career, spanning 40 years.

2.Obuoba J. A. Adofo

Jackson Alfred Adofo – Obuoba J. A. Adofo a.k.a. The Black Chinese a.k.a. Chairman Muo, is the Leader of the City Boys Band of Ghana. He has been such an exciting performer and entertainer with many years experience, with over 30 albums to his credit.


3.Prof. Kofi Abraham

Prof. Kofi Abraham

The great composer, song writer and performer, is known in real life as Abraham Kofi Boakye. His contribution to gospel music goes back to 1970s and the indomitable role he played in the music industry opened the doors to the growth of gospel music in the country.

Kofi Abraham, who was given the title ‘Professor’ at Koforidua by a member of the Late President Hilla Limann’s administration and  had led the True Gospel Band and the Ashanti Regiona Music Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).
