Augustine Miles Kelechi, popularly known as Tekno was arrested and underwent questioning at Panti yesterday for conveying semi-naked women in a transparent truck around Lagos – thenet.ng reports!
he state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana told the press yesterday, “The command has arrested Tekno and two others for conveying half-naked girls at the Lekki area of Lagos. He is presently undergoing questioning at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti.” The issue that started off as a viral video has now gotten the attention of both state and federal government, and they are investigating the matter.
The federal government had condemned the act that saw some women dancing around a man on a pole in a transparent truck around Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge in Lagos. They called the act a “strange entertainment from the pit of hell.” People had assumed that the man in the van had been Tekno but the singer said on his Instagram account on Sunday that he was not the man in the van. He claimed that the van was only used to convey his crew to the location of his video shoot.
Tekno may be facing actual charges up to 2 years imprisonment for the stunt that he and his production team pulled. The act according to the Lagos State Signage and Advertising Agency, LASSAA, contravenes Section 136 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The section provides that “any person who commits any act of gross indecency with another person in public commits an offence and liable to a conviction to three years imprisonment”. Section 134 (a) further states that “an indecent act in a public place makes both parties engaging in the act liable to imprisonment for two years”.
Although he has apologised to the public, numerous Nigerians have condemned the behaviour and asked that he and the people involved in the act should be arrested. Whether or not he will actually be facing charges is still unknown as the matter is under investigation.
