3 years ago, the legendary Amakye Dede put a crown on the head of Kuami Eugene, proclaiming him to be the next ‘King of Highlife’ on the VGMA stage – generating some uproar among music stakeholders.
However, if the VGMA laurels is anything to go by then there’s some vindication for Amakye Dede.
Kuami won the ‘Artiste of the Year’ last year, which was met with some sigh of disapproval from a section of the public. This year, in spite of his impressive work rate, his run in this year’s edition was uncharacteristically quiet. That did not stop him from setting yet another record in this year’s edition.
He won the ‘Highlife Artiste of the Year’ for the 4th consecutive time, an unprecedented feat never chalked in the 22-year history of the awards.
He also won it in 2018, 2019, and 2020 – making him the undisputed ‘King’ of highlife music.
