THIS IS ENCOURAGING! Uncle Ebo Whyte Tells His Story

“Uncle” Ebo Whyte.

Renowned playwright, James Ebo Whyte, has revealed that his mother wanted him to repair and maintain automobiles and not a playwright.

He made the revelation in an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM Thursday.

According to Uncle Ebo, he wasn’t born into a rich family hence there was no alternative than to help his mom take care of his younger siblings because his father had kicked the bucket.

He added that, despite the fact that he was brilliant in class, there was no hope of furthering his education so his mom insisted he completed elementary school at Form 4 so he could learn the mechanic profession to support home.

“My mom wanted me to be a mechanic. I was born and raised in Kumasi. She wanted me to finish form 4 so she could introduce me to someone [to learn mechanic) to help raise my brothers…” he disclosed.

Narrating the incident that led him to become successful, Ebo Whyte disclosed that his elementary teacher changed the course of his life by granting him the opportunity to write his common entrance exams.

After emerging as one of the best two overall students, he won the opportunity to relocate to Accra to further his studies – an opportunity that killed the mechanic dream.

“I cried when the teacher asked for my common entrance fee. My dad promised he will take me to Prempeh College but he died before he could do so. So my teacher paid and my mom was prevailed upon not to let the opportunity go…that is what changed the trajectory of my life…” he told Andy Dosty.
