Ghanaian filmmaker, Frank Fiifi Gharbin is livid that his film, ‘Black Monkey’ did not make the cut for the categorization and nomination at the Golden Movie Awards and his angst stems from the fact that the jury scrapped his movie because of its title – ‘Black Monkey’!
www.entertainmentgh.com observed as the film director snarled to Sammy Flex on Zylofon FM’s ‘Showbiz Agenda’ – lashing out at the Golden Movie Awards jury for the action.
“It is nonsensical for the jury to disqualify my movie because of the title,” he snapped.
He questioned the sense in movie jurors in accepting and hailing a movie titled, ‘Black Panther’ but choose to reject another movie called ‘Black Monkey’.
“Panther is an animal and Monkey is also an animal, so why would they reject my movie?” he queried.
He stated, that contrary to what the jury felt about the title, his movie is all about black emancipation.
He singled out popular juror for the awards, the legendary Grace Omaboe also known as Maame Dokono, for some stern castigation.
“How can you choose Maame Dokono to lead your jury? She is technically blind and needs spectacles. She never likes anything Kumawood.”
Reacting to the rejection of the movie, the Public Relations Officer for the Golden Movie Awards, Ken Addy, stated that, movie was rejected by the jury because it felt the title affects the sensibilities of the black people.
“The jury felt that as black people, we should not denigrate ourselves,” he explained.
