The announcement of media firm, Media General Group, taking charge of the media promotion and coverage of the 2018 edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) was supposed to unravel one of the biggest partnerships between two (2) of the biggest, influential entities in Ghana – but the declaration has been met with some mixed feelings, www.enteratainmentgh.com has taken notice too!
The seeming confusion stems from the already-publicized partnership between TV3, a subsidiary of Media General Group, and 3Music Awards and the decision of the station on which event to cover live; the main event of the 3Music Awards scheduled for Fantasy Dome in Accra or the VGMA Nominees Jam slated for Cape Coast – all on March 24, 2018.
Speaking to Sammy Flex on Zylofon 102.1, the CEO of 3Music Awards, Sadiq Abdulai Abu and the Communications Director for Charterhouse, George Quaye, all confirmed that their respective events would be telecast live by TV3.
As a result of that confusion, www.entertianmenght.com has information that, organizers of 3Music Awards, which is staging its first edition, are encountering grave challenges with sponsorship for the event.
Sadiq Abdulai Abu, CEO of 3Music Awards told this portal that, some valued sponsors who had promised to support the event have pulled the plugs on their commitment to provide succor for the event while others are now ambivalent over their promise to support.
According to him, this unfortunate decision by the sponsors is as a result of the trending story of TV3 partnering with the VGMA and the announcement on live television by the respective heads of the two firms that, the VGMA Nominees Jam in Cape Coast would be covered live by the station.
Regardless of the assurances he’s given to the sponsors that 3Music Awards already has agreement with the TV Station to broadcast the event live, they (sponsors) seem not convinced, for fear of the station rather sticking with the bigger brand, VGMA, when March 24 comes around.
The 3Music Awards in partnership with TV3, will be held at the new Fantasy Dome, Trade Fair Center, Accra and artists expected to grace the first edition of the awards are Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, R2Bees, Joe Mettle, Kidi, Kuami Eugene and many others.
The VGMA’s nominations list unveiling would also take place on Friday, March 2, 2018, where nominations for most of the categories will be announced on TV3 and other networks under the umbrella of Media General Group.
