There was pandemonium at the premises of Rainbow 87.9FM over the weekend when top Music Executives, Ekow Micah, Francis Twum Mensah and Yaw Osborn were engaged in some shoving and brawling. On-lookers at the unfortunate scenario outside the studios of the station had to step in to avert a free-for-all fight between the three industry honchos.
The three were invited to the station’s ‘GH. Entertainment’ show to speak on issues concerning the alleged illegal piracy charges that led to the arrest and 3-day detention of Mr. Twum Mensah.
After a very heated discourse that was fraught with disagreements and threats, the three gentlemen stepped out of the studio to face each other. Yaw Osborn, the current General Secretary of GAPI confronted Ekow Micah on causing the arrest and detention of Mr. Twum. Mr. Micah did not take the confrontation lightly and shoved Osborn and that was when Mr. Twum had to step in. What followed were a melee of shoving, throwing of blows and any available furniture at the studio.
Francis Mensah Twum, who is the Project Coordinator of GAPI, was arrested by a Security Unit organized by Ekow Micah following complaints from a number of Ghanaian musicians and some stakeholders of the Music Council of Ghana; that their musical works were being pirated and sold on the internet without their approval.
According to Ekow Micah, President of the council, Mr. Mensah Twum had collaborated with a website, Phonofile in Norway to upload over 5,000 Ghanaians songs online for sale which generates close to $10,000 every month- an allegation the latter denies with documents to back his denial.
