Doreen Andoh, takes a bow after 19 years on radio

After almost 19 years of loyal and dedicated service to listeners the ‘goddess’ of Ghana’s mid morning radio, Doreen Andoh is set to take a bow.
‘MaDor’ as she is affectionately called will for the last time this week on the Cosmopolitan Mix serve her most delicious tunes, health tips, spiced with a soothingly sumptuous voice under extremely emotional circumstances. It will be her last.
She will bid good bye not only to Joy FM but to a radio career she accidentally fell in love with some 19 years ago.
She wanted to be a Pharmacist but a protracted strike by lecturers in the University in the early 90s meant the bubbly iconic figure would give her best shot at radio.
She walked into the studios of Joy FM, small, quiet and unassuming but with a hidden trail of determination to succeed in what used to be a male dominated industry.
Today, she is a colossus.  A rare talent with the mastery of charming her listeners. A genius decorated with multiple awards.
In an industry whose players are easily poached within and many times outside the industry, Doreen Andoh has been religiously faithful to her employers and to her career.
Many came and left but Doreen remained the epiphany of a faithful servant who was willing to go the extra mile to meet the expectations of her employers who are very difficult to please and hugely critical listeners who are too discerning to be taken for granted.
“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven,” says the scriptures and while Doreen’s bursting onto radio and bowing out of it perfectly fulfil scriptures, listeners will look back to what has been a thoroughly amazing ride on radio with an amazing driver who, so effortlessly, dazzled her listeners with touch of smile.
Programmes Director for Joy FM, Kofi Ansah, says there will be a befitting send-off for ‘her royal highness’ tomorrow at 9am at Joy FM here.
