Beiersdorf, producers of NIVEA Skin Products, have issued a statement addressing the backlash that erupted on social media over the communication on the billboards of the product, which are mounted at some locations in the capital city, Accra, Ghana.
Some persons took offense to the inscription and the message that accompanies the advert – “For Visibly Fairer Skin’, which generated quite some banter on social media – www.entertainmentgh.com took notice!
Musicians, Reggie Rockstone and Fuse ODG plus a legion of other social media commentators raised issues with the communication, calling it a denigration to persons with dark skin.
In its response, Nivea stated that, there’s no way it meant to demean or glorify any person’s needs or preference in skin care.
It also stated that, they develop products with the objective of helping consumers maintain their skin health and beauty in all diversity.
