Popular film maker and a stalwart in the Ghanaian movie Industry, Socrate Safo, has a new role – the Chairman, Film Classification Committee, an outlet under the National Film Authority (NFA) – www.entertainmentgh.com is excited!
The Committee, which was formed in pursuance of the Film Act 2016, will be a constitution of members from the office of the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Information Service Department, National Commission on Culture, National Film and Television Institute, Film Producers Association, Ghana Police Service, Copyright Office, Christian Council, Federation of Muslim Council, Traditional Religious Authority, Ministry of Gender and Children and Social Protection and the National House of Chiefs.
The Committee was officially unveiled yesterday and it was attended by the Minister of Tourism, Arts &Culture, Board Chairman and members of the NFA plus other members of the industry were present.
During the inauguration, the Chairman for the National Film Authority, David Dontoh narrated the background of the Authority, specific roles and the progress they have made so far. He appealed to the general public especially the stakeholders and pundits to be considerate in their criticisms because it is a a new project and it needs time to grow.
Veteran Actor David Dontoh also urged the public to forward their suggestions to the board since their doors are always opener.
Mr. Safo’s role, among others, is to spearhead the committee in ensuring an effective classification of films and audiovisual contents that comes into the Ghanaian market and in our media landscape.
The Film Classification Committee is an instrument under the NFA with the purpose of classifying all audiovisual materials such as movies, television programmes and music videos among others for public viewing.
