For a person who got his nationwide popularity from the TV3-produced music reality show, ‘Mentor’ – one would have expected famed music producer, Mark Okraku Mantey, to put that show on a pedestal in terms of ratings but no, he opts for another.
The CEO of Slip Entertainment, who won admiration and widespread condemnation for his role as a stern and brusque judge on the now-defunct popular music reality show on TV3 has disclosed that MTN Hitmaker has been the most unique and most economically viable music reality show of all time in Ghana.
He made this assertion on DayBreak Hitz on Hitz 103.9FM on the discussion of the impact of music reality shows in the music industry.
According to him, Mentor did catapult him into inestimable fame and popularity but, with his knowledge, expertise and exposure with regards to music reality shows, he can only put MTN Hitmaker on top of the log as that show that has been most impactful.
He justified his opinion by stating that, the reality show has churned out more stars than any other reality show in Ghana. Koo Ntakra, Freda Rhymes, Kurl Songx, KiDi, Kuami Eugene and most recently, Yaw Berk, Mr. Drew and others.
He also stated that the show also defined the brands of some producers including Kaywa and Richie, who manage the likes of Kurl Songx, Yaw Berk, Mr. Drew, Kuami Eugene and KiDi respectively – all discovered on the show!
He asserted that, MTN Hitmaker, via its numerous products, have produced the most hit songs over the period than any other – making it the most lucrative, the most economy-growing brand and most viable, business-wise.
In assessing the words of the well-respected producer, www.entertainmentgh.com can confirm that indeed, almost half or more of the top rated artists in Ghana in the last year, are products of the reality show. The likes of Kuami Eugene and KiDi, both from the Lynx Music Label, have dominated the charts with consistent hit singles in the last 8-12months while the likes Kurl Songx, from Kaywa’s Highly Spiritual Music are holding that camp’s flag hoisted and heavily backed by other MTN Hitmaker alumni; Yaw Berk, Mr. Drew and Krymi, who are all gaining rave reviews for their respective latest singles.
